Christianna Strbik Giaume

(they/them)

I am Christianna Strbik Giaume, an artist, researcher, and embodiment guide. I am also a human just being in a body, listening to the voices of the nature. In this way, an authentic space for the expression of the soul is being created.

I was initiated into the somatic arts while living with my grandmother on ancestral land in Hungary. To find balance and harmony after arriving there, I began observing the cycles of my grandmother’s garden, season after season. After a year of daily offerings to the garden, listening to her stories, and connecting with my roots, I started using these observations to develop a method of somatically relating to nature.

I was born on the occupied Paugussett, Wappinger, and Schaghticoke land in the USA. My research began while working as a crew member at Repurpose Savannah, a non-profit deconstruction and historical salvage company. After studying methods of deconstruction and history and bringing them into a somatic focus, I traveled to India to study yoga at Rishikesh Yogpeeth in April 2023. Inspired by the ancient masters of movement and philosophy, I began researching the similarities between ancient yogic practices and somatic movement that allow us to become more in balance with the elements of the Earth.

My experiences in diverse fields have led to the consistent evolution of a movement research practice, forming the foundation for my artistic and teaching methods. By offering research-based classes and approaching my work with an investigative lens, I continue to examine concepts that create a bridge between the human and more-than-human. I apply this knowledge to multidisciplinary projects by attending symposiums and facilitating at festivals across Europe.

I am a registered 200-hour yoga instructor with an MA in dance education. Currently, I am studying and researching contact improvisation and somatic movement with Kontakt Budapest in Budapest, Hungary, where I am based.

As a nomadic artist who thrives on traveling and collaborating with artists worldwide, my mission is to reconstruct the bridge between human and more-than-human. I am currently creating nurturing spaces for exploration using methods such as deep listening, free association, somatic communication and Contemplative Dance Practice (CDP). I am here to help people remember the nature within their bodies.
